List of Banks in the Caribbean. List of Banks in Sint Eustatius. Sint Eustatius, also known affectionately to the locals as Statia or Statius, is one of the islands that make up the Netherlands Antilles; it is in the northern, Leeward Islands portion of the West Indies, southeast of the Virgin Islands. Like its neighbor Saba, Sint Eustatius (also known as Statia) is small, covering just 8 square miles, and is dominated by a volcano, the Quill. It is accessible via flights from Sint Maarten.

This paper is concerned with the islands of Montserrat Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Eustatius and Saba, which lie on the inner volcanic are at the northern of the Lesser Antilles. Andesites greatly predominate over basalts and dacites in this part of the arc. Generally the lavas from the northern Lesser Antilles contain low abundances of Ni, Cr and residual trace elements but lavas from Saba are.   The Lesser Antilles volcanic arc is related to subduction of the American plate under the Caribbean plate. The rate of subduction is low, 2–4 cm a −1, and this has been reflected, at least over the past Ma, in relatively low magma production rates (3–5 km 3 Ma −1 km −1 of arc). The arc is segmented; a northern segment trends ° and the Benioff zone dips at 50–60°, whilst.

The increase in the number of earthquakes and in the temperature of the hot springs that occurred between and on the islands of Saba and St. Eustatius, located in the Northern Lesser Antilles, was more than a mere fluke in subterranean activity: a mild volcano-seismic crisis had produced an increased heat s: M.

Eustatius, Northern Lesser Antilles ( avg rating, 1 rating, 0 reviews, published ) an 5/5(1). The two small islands of Saba and St. Eustatius (Netherlands Antilles) lie on the northernmost subaerial end of the active arc of the Lesser Antilles.

They are separated by the 28 km wide St. Eustatius Passage, and 20 km further along the arc the submarine Lumeyes Bank represents the northernmost volcanic center of the arc. Saba and St. Eustatius/Sint Eustatius (Statia) represent geologically young (less than a million years) Pleistocene island arc volcanoes that rise at the northernmost part of the Lesser Antilles.

Sint Eustatius measures 6 miles (10 km) long and up to 3 miles (5 km) wide and, with Saba, forms the northwestern termination of the inner volcanic arc of the Lesser Antilles.

The island is dominated by two extinct volcanoes, with a flat central plain separating the two. Eustatius is a small Dutch Caribbean island located in the north eastern Caribbean Sea. It lies on the northern part of the Lesser Antilles.

Eustatius measures square miles (approx. 21 square kilometers) and has a population of approximately 3, people. It is located southeast of Saba and Northwest of St. Kitts. Born of molten lava and raised violently from the depths, Saba and St. Eustatius (better known as Statia) pack in enough physical beauty, cultural interest and thrilling underwater experiences to satisfy the most sophisticated traveler, the most intrepid diver.
